In this second event of the Forum, we will explore the complexities of the agricultural and food production sector and the fragmented nature of the market in the context of acquiring customers, de-risking technologies and meeting the necessary regulatory requirements. Crucially, we will be hearing from a range of agri-preneurs about the challenges they have faced and how they have overcome them and together, we will be asking how we can support promising food and agricultural companies across the continent to survive their critical growth stages?
Context: A huge variety of exciting opportunities for innovation in food and agriculture exist in countries across Africa, including biotech, vertical farming, logistics, new foods and smallholder-tech. However, despite this potential, there is often a mismatch between existing support and investment vehicles and the requirements of early-stage agricultural companies on the continent.
Against a backdrop of a growing need for food production, rising youth unemployment and increased urbanisation, climatic changes, the scale of the problems faced and the limited time to solve them means a radically-different approach will be needed to develop and support promising agricultural entrepreneurs.
